IKO WHO? | IKO The Insitute of Polish for Foreigners
IKO is a private school registered with the Ministry of Education to teach Polish as a Second Language. Established in February 1994 by Dorota Drewnowska and Malgosia Kujawska, all management and teaching staff have extensive training and experience in developing Language Programs for foreign individuals who are visiting or working in Poland. IKO instructors are carefully recruited, trained and monitored to maintain the high level of quality that more than 7,500 students from across Europe, Asia and North America have come to expect. IKO is authorized to organize certificate exams in Polish as a foreign language, such as: State exam, TELC exam and ECL exam
Why are we?
Our adventure with teaching Polish began in 1990 when we were responsible for the creation of a Polish language training program for American Peace Corps volunteers. This wonderful and exciting opportunity allowed us to develop a totally new approach to teaching Polish, and to test and refine it in practice sessions with large groups of students. The result of this experience was the foundation of the IKO program, followed by the opening of IKO school to create an independent space for further experimentation in teaching Polish as a foreign language based on our newly developed communicative approach.
How we teach?
We teach Polish by Polish! For teaching Polish we use own textbooks for each level based on communicative approach. Each level of Polish consist of 50-60 classes.
We provide courses on following levels: A1; A1.1-A1.2, A2; A2.1-A2.2, B1; B1.1-B1.2, B2; B2.1- B2.2, C1; C1.1-C1.2. Our teaching curriculum is consistent with the system of levels described in the European Framework of Reference for Languages and with requirements of ALTE – The Association of Language Testers in Europe.
What do we do?
Our group courses are conducted in non-intensive and intensive mode all year round.
Our individual courses are tailored to the needs of our clients, both in terms of the program and the lesson plan.
Additionally we provide courses for specific purposes for students who achieved already B1 level such as: Exam courses, Medical and Business (legal and financial) courses as well.
