The Institute of Polish for Foreigners (IKO) is an entity authorized to organize state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language at levels B1, B2, C1 and C2 in a group adapted to the needs of adults. More detailed information about the exam can be found at: www.certyfikatpolski.pl.
What is the State Exam?
The exam consists of a written and oral part. The written part consists of the following parts:1) Listening; 2)understanding of written texts; 3) grammatical correctness and 4) writing. There are 15-minute breaks between each part of the exam.
How long the exam takes?
At level B1, the written part lasts a maximum of 190 minutes, at levels B2 and C1 – 250 minutes. The oral exam is conducted individually and lasts approximately 15 minutes at levels B1 and B2, and approximately 20 minutes at level C1.
When the exam result is positive?
The condition for passing the exam is: at proficiency levels adapted to the needs of adults:for B1 level – obtaining at least 50% of points in each module of the written part and in the oral part of the exam, for levels B2, C1, C2 – obtaining at least 60% of points in each module of the written part and in the oral part of the exam.
Attention! Candidates who get a negative result have the right to submit an application to the State Commission for Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language (PKdsPZJPjO) to re-check the written part of the exam within 21 days from the date of receiving information about the exam results, after paying the agreed fee (20 Euro). Exam results:
IKO informs candidates by e-mail about the exam results after the results are approved by the State Commission (PKdsPZJPjO). These results are available approximately 2-3 months after the exam date.
Receipt of certificate:
The certificate can be collected within approximately 4 months from the exam date at IKO at ul. Foksal 16, 00-372 in Warsaw. It is possible to send the certificate by courier, in which case the responsibility for any loss and shipping costs lies with of the ordering party.
Exam cost:
The fee for the B1 and B2 exam is 150 EUR plus 20 EUR for the certificate and the fee for the C1 exam – 180 EUR plus 20 EUR for the certificate. The fee must be paid in PLN. The exact cost of the exam in PLN is provided before each registration is opened and, in accordance with the Polish Language Act, it is calculated based on the average Euro exchange rate at the National Bank of Poland (NBP) from the last day of the month preceding the opening of registration.

Preparatory Intensive Summer Courses for State Exam in November 15-16 or TELC exam
Courses are held every day from Monday till Thursday in the morning or noon and in the evening or 3 times a week, the cost is 1500 PLN (50 classes)
- A2 July 7 – 31, every day from MON till THU AT 12.15-14.30;
- B1 July 7 – 31, every day from MON till THU at 9.30-11.45;
- C1 July 7 – 31, three times a week at 14.00-17.00;
- A2/B1 July 7 – 31, Mon. Wed. & Fri from 17.30-20.30;
- A2 August 4 – 28, every day from MON till THU at 12.15-14.30;
- B1 August 4 – 28, every day from MON till THU at 9.30-11.45
- A2/B1 August 4 – 28, Mon. Wed. & Fri from 17.30-20.30;
- C1 August 4 – 28, three times a week at 14.00-17.00.

Preparatory Courses for the State Exam:
courses, with the possibility of participating in the exam, will be conducted on-line twice a week in the evening or on Saturdays (the cost is PLN 400, 650 and 950) from September.
